The Meeting Sales Manager is currently responsible for independently selling the destination to meeting planners and group markets. This employee generates and books group leads for Sarasota County through active prospecting, sales calls, tradeshows, conducting familiarization tours and other creative sales activities that generate ROI for Sarasota County. This employee is responsible for producing performance reports. This employee serves at-will and the position is exempt (professional).
Reporting and Working Relationship
The Meeting Sales Manager reports directly to the Director of Sales. Because of the small size of Visit Sarasota County, teamwork is considered essential.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related discipline preferred.
Preference for three years’ sales experience, tourism area a plus.
Ability to travel out of the area for overnight stays for up to one week at a time.
Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to quickly learn industry related computer software.
Ability to exercise judgment and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations.
Must have a valid Florida drivers license.
Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Effective creation and execution of Sales Strategy to increase economic impact.
Maintain close working relationships with area hotels and tourism-related businesses.
Effective management of the sales budget.
Management of third party meeting vendors.
Creates and manages co-op sales promotions opportunities for VSC partners.
Coordinate and conduct Familiarization Tours for meeting planners.
Provides monthly and quarterly sales reports to the Director of Sales.
Prepares and processes timely and accurate travel expense reports.
Coordinates and conducts requested servicing for in-destination groups.
Overall Responsibility of the Meeting Incentive Program and its effectiveness and periodic assessment of program guidelines.
Handles all aspects of meeting business development including leads, bids, follow-up, in-destination service.
Creates and deploys promotional communications and mailings including semi-annual e-newsletters to the meetings industry.
Maintains national, regional, state and local profile in travel industry through association memberships and committees.
Maintains constant supply of sales materials and monitors usage.
Makes personal and telephone sales contacts to meeting planners in existing and new markets.
Keeps accurate and up to date files on all groups that have or may utilize area’s meeting facilities.
Responsible for all registration, travel arrangements and set up for tradeshow events.
Responds to clients requesting bids, information, materials on bringing potential business to Sarasota County.
Assists Director of Sales in special projects as needed.
