This position, along with the Visit Estes Park CEO and staff, works with a variety of media outlets to promote the Estes Park area as a premier Colorado vacation destination. This position, with direction from the CEO, regularly promotes Estes Park attractions, accommodations, dining, recreation and retail facilities, as well as special events and festivals to local, regional, national and international consumer and trade media, visitors, residents and others. This is a highly visible role both within the organization and with stakeholders, governmental offices, partner organizations, advertising and public relations agencies, and vendors.
Nature & Scope
Works under minimal supervision. Using a high degree of independent judgment and reasoning, prepares press releases, plans and executes media and tour trade familiarization tours, and other media activities. The position is the organization’s key contact with public relations consultants. This position updates media contacts, editorial calendars and potential Visit Estes Park media coverage opportunities. Typical duties include:
Develops media strategies
Plan, prepare and execute media and tour trade familiarization tours.
Create press releases specifically relating to Estes Park events and activities.
Work with organization’s public relations consultants to research editorial calendars for local, regional, national and international publications.
Attend tradeshow and industry events as a Visit Estes Park representative.
Attend local events on behalf of Visit Estes Park.
Assist with maintenance of relationships with industry partners such as the Colorado Tourism Office, local hospitality partners and others.
Lead the team(s) producing the Estes Park Visitor Guide, Visit Estes Park Annual Report and other print projects
Develop a complete working knowledge of the Estes Park area and Rocky Mountain National Park including all of its attractions and amenities.
Update media contact lists, focusing on finding new outlets and contacts for Estes Park media coverage.
Other duties as assigned.
Position requires a 4-year degree plus 2 years' experience in public relations, journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of education. Ability to create and edit a variety of written work including press releases, presentations, brochures, website content, collateral and more. General knowledge of the technical process, procedures, and methods used in producing publications and other printed materials. Strong and effective writing and public speaking skills. Complete command of the basic principles of journalism, English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and business correspondence. Must pay attention to detail, meet deadlines and have outstanding organizational skills. Must have proficiency in all typical Microsoft Office software. Knowledge and use of CRM software is a plus. General knowledge of local and regional geography, businesses and attractions needed. Flexibility to work irregular hours/schedules. Overnight travel occasionally is required.
