The Director for the Indiana Office of Tourism Development reports to the Lieutenant Governor. Primary responsibilities for the position include: serve as official liaison with Indiana’s tourism industry, direct the state’s consumer focused marketing and communications efforts, direct the implementation of the agency strategic plan and manage tourism agency staff and vendors.
Serve as official liaison with Indiana’s tourism industry:
Represent Indiana Office of Tourism Development at all Association of Indiana Convention and Visitors Bureaus meetings;
Serve as a member of the Indiana Tourism Council
Attend international, national and local tourism related meetings as needed;
Serve as member of Lt. Governor’s Cabinet;
Direct marketing and communications efforts:
Supervise creative execution of print, TV, radio, online and web-based efforts with advertising agency;
Direct efforts to increase awareness of Indiana’s tourism brand;
Direct efforts to identify campaign needs and execute multiple campaigns as necessary;
Direct research program including: advertising effectiveness, brand and economic impact reports;
Monitor metrics, including web site visits and private revenue generation, to gauge success of programs;
Serve as chief spokesperson for IOTD as appropriate for media interviews;
Direct strategic plan implementation:
Work with industry partners and associations to garner feedback for creating IOTD strategic plan
Direct IOTD’s efforts in alliance management, building brand awareness, statewide product development and increasing revenue.
Create collaborations with tourism industry partners such as media marketplaces, community assessments and cooperative marketing programs.
Identify new partners and partner opportunities to support growth and expansion of tourism opportunities.
Supervise marketing and communications staff:
Provide direction, assistance and feedback to staff;
Execute performance evaluations and metrics for direct reports.
Monitor agency budget for personnel, operations and marketing.
