The President of Kent County Tourism Corporation (dba Delaware’s Quaint Villages) directs and leads the Corporation toward its mission. The President reports to the Kent County Tourism Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.
A highly visible position, the President will be in a position requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in making decisions which will reflect upon the entire staff and organization.
This position is primarily responsible for all operational functions, shaping and developing organizational strategies for the Corporation, and helping identify opportunities and areas for improvement. The President is also responsible for strategic business development and key planning issues that relate to and impact the Corporation. This position will determine resource allocation among budget items and keep the Board of Directors informed about business activities, performance opportunities, and recommended courses of action.
The President shall oversee the Marketing & Communications Manager, Sales & Events Manager, Visitor Service Manager and Administrative Assistant. Although overall goals and purposes of the Kent County Tourism Corporation are accomplished through individual employee efforts, a team approach is essential to its overall success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume full accountability for executive leadership and management ensuring that the overall mission and strategies of the organization are consistently implemented and maintained.
Coordinate and execute solutions for business needs/challenges while overseeing all administrative, operating, and marketing functions.
Develop and implement effective strategies, policies, and processes for the continued growth/expansion of the organization.
Maintain collaborative working relationships while reporting to Board of Directors and delivering advice and recommendations to the Chairman of the Board, the Board of Directors, and other committees as designated.
Oversee the financial management of the organization, direct the preparation of the annual budget, and manage the creation of financial reports and annual review reports.
Accountable for developing and supervising the implementation of annual operating and marketing plan.
Execute creative strategies designed to promote the county to local, state, regional, national, and international audiences.
Establish and maintain effective ongoing communications and relationships with community and government leaders, business and cultural institution leaders, convention and event planners, and the local tourism industry.
Attend Board meetings and other designated area committees/boards in an advisory capacity as well as represent the DMO at local, state, regional, and national conventions that foster the betterment of the DMO’s mission.
Coordinate, develop, and maintain effective organizational policies, processes, and procedures and ensure that all Bureau activities are implemented within the established policies, guidelines, laws, and ethical standards.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate personnel, oversee implementation of discipline and termination procedures, coordinate staff training, establish goals for individual departments, and assist staff with meeting those goals.
Establishes goals for individual departments and assists staff members to achieve those goals.
Prepares and submits applications for external funding & grants, when necessary.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, Hospitality or related field
3-5 years of relevant experience in the travel industry or destination marketing management required
Experience in supervision with a proven ability and track record of managing, motivating, leading and developing staff, including administration, marketing, communication, sales, events and visitor services areas
Excellent time management skills, including the demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and assignments
Ability and experience in effectively working with a variety of people
Experienced in presentation development
Knowledge of latest innovative marketing, promotions and public relations techniques
Ability to speak to the media and public on a regular basis for both prepared and impromptu events
Ability to exercise initiative judgment, tact and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
Ability to exercise effective management and leadership techniques
Ability to communicate and act under pressure
Ability to work varied work schedule includes nights, weekends and holidays
Ability to travel occasionally
Hands on knowledge/experience developing performance metrics (Key Performance Indicators) for a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) and individual staff members
Knowledge of convention, meeting trade-shows, consumer shows, tourism and entertainment industries
Knowledge of budgeting, general accounting and finances
Position is exempt and will require overtime, holidays, and weekends as requested by Board of Directors
Willing to travel as required to trade shows, conventions, and continuing education
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicles
Any other duties as needed
