Visit Bloomington is the official Destination Marketing Organization for Bloomington and Monroe County, Indiana. Our mission is to positively impact the quality of life for Monroe County residents as a result of our promotional efforts to position this area as a tourism destination. Established in 1977, Visit Bloomington is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit corporation charged with attracting convention, sports, and leisure visitors to Monroe County and working to ensure they have a positive experience while here.
Located in south central Indiana, Bloomington and Monroe County are most well-known as the home of Indiana University. The university helps to create a diverse culture for the regional community, which is a draw for visitors when combined with our natural outdoor attractions and rich history.
With the recent approval of the expansion of the Monroe Convention Center in downtown Bloomington, we are also expanding our meetings sales efforts and seek a proven convention salesperson to direct those efforts. As a member of the Visit Bloomington team, the person in this position is the primary representative selling Bloomington and all of Monroe County as a destination for meetings, conventions and conferences, not only in the expanded Convention Center, but all group meeting spaces in Monroe County.
Duties and Responsibilities
To succeed in this position, an individual must be able to perform the duties below.
Persistently prospect and solicit conventions and meetings hosting opportunities.
Create and implement strategies, aligning with Visit Bloomington’s overall marketing efforts, for recruiting new and repeat convention groups that hold their events here.
Routinely plan, coordinate and implement direct sales calls, sales blitzes, fam tours and site inspections with prospective meeting planners.
Represent Visit Bloomington at trade shows and related events. Coordinate trade show booth activities (including set up/tear down) with industry partners.
Prepare regular sales reports summarizing top prospects, recruitment efforts, trends and other important group sales information.
Serve as the primary liaison to the Monroe Convention Center and other area group meeting spaces in the systematic development of successful sales efforts.
Find opportunities then develop and present bids to meeting planners.
Maintain accurate records of meeting groups that have or may utilize area facilities.
Research and pursue new meetings sales techniques and technologies for maximizing resources.
Represent Visit Bloomington in organizations such as the Indiana Society of Association Executives, Meeting Planners International and other meetings organizations.
Be a great teammate and work cohesively with all Visit Bloomington personnel to ensure unified, effective promotional efforts.
Work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends required to be successful at this job.
Regularly travel overnight both within Indiana and out of state.
Other duties as assigned by Visit Bloomington Executive Director or Assistant Director.

Bachelors’ degree required.
Knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industry, including convention sales management and marketing.
Minimum of four years of group sales experience.
Proven history of successful convention sales results and of building relationships with meeting planners.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
