This highly visible position requires a motivated, self-starter with strong communication skills, leadership vision, diplomacy, and experience with managing personnel and budget. The ability to establish relationships with industry partners and other local leaders, and experience in strategic planning is a must.
Ten+ years of hospitality industry experience with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Marketing, Management or Public Relations is preferred.
The President/CEO works closely with the Board of Directors to set policy, create programs and direct the operations of the organization.
The President/CEO is responsible for marketing the city/county as a convention site and visitor destination by overseeing programs with the goal of increasing the economic impact of the hospitality industry, generating new jobs and developing the workforce.
Huntsville is the largest city in Alabama with a healthy growing economy, exceptional attractions, hotels and restaurants, and exciting future plans in process. U.S. News & World Report named it the #1 City to Live in the U.S. in 2022, and #2 in 2023. The city is home to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the largest space museum in the world and the #1 paid attraction in the state. There are currently close to 8,000 hotel rooms in Huntsville and Madison.
The CVB team consists of 16 full-time employees, and 30 part-time Visitor Information Assistants and Registration Assistants. The annual budget is $4.9 million.
The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau is responsible for marketing Huntsville and Madison County, Alabama, as a convention site and tourist destination. Convention delegate and visitor spending in Huntsville increases lodging tax and sales tax receipts, thus increasing the economic base in Huntsville and Madison County.
